Traffic Sign Assist
Keep an eye on selected traffic regulations and no-overtaking zones at all times. This assistant can use camera images and map data to recognise what you need to pay attention to – and display corresponding warnings and information in MBUX.
At a glance
- Warnings when you are in danger of inadvertently driving through red traffic lights or ignoring stop signs or give-way signs
- Warnings when pedestrians are recognised at zebra crossings
- Warnings when wrong-way driving is detected
- Corresponding information is displayed when no-overtaking signs and the lifting of such restrictions are recognised
Keeps an eye on traffic regulations for you
Whether you're on the road in a new city or on long motorway journeys with monotonous sections and roadworks – keep an eye on everything amid the confusion. Traffic Sign Assist clearly shows you in MBUX which rules are in force and, if available, on the head-up display. It can also recognise red traffic lights, give-way signs and stop signs and then warn you if you inadvertently drive through them or drive down a road the wrong way. If it detects that you have not yet reduced your speed shortly ahead of a red traffic light, for example, it can display a warning that you are in danger of driving through the red light. The assistant also uses camera images to recognise no-overtaking signs and the lifting of overtaking restrictions. If your vehicle is equipped with DIGITAL LIGHT, the warning for red traffic lights and stop signs will also be projected onto the road as a light symbol at night. The assistant offers additional support for anticipatory driving at marked pedestrian crossings: if pedestrians want to cross the road there, it will draw your attention to this.
Your advantages at a glance
While driving, the networked Traffic Sign Assist system analyses the camera images and is able to recognise certain traffic signs and traffic light signals. It also evaluates the route you are currently taking based on navigation data, e.g. if signposting is sparse in less built-up areas. In addition to displaying no-overtaking signs, Traffic Sign Assist can also provide you with warnings in certain situations: by means of an acoustic and visual warning signal when you are in danger of driving through recognised stop signs, give-way signs and red traffic lights and to alert you to no-entry signs; with an acoustic and visual warning signal when pedestrians are detected in the area of recognised pedestrian crossings.
Product information
Availability of the described functions varies from country to country. Poor visibility may affect the system. It is also possible that unclear and unfavourably positioned signs may not be detected.
For vehicles built in the EU before 07.07.2024, the display of speed limits, comparison with the current driving speed and a deactivatable warning when the vehicle's speed exceeds the current speed limits are additionally included. In recent vehicles, these functions are included as standard. It is possible that the system may fail to recognise speed limits for exits and parallel lanes (e.g. on motorways and dual carriageways).
